Alright, after it was brought up in some discussion earlier, thought I'd make a proper thread about it since I'm incredibly interested in checking it out.

Who here plays EVE?

I'm going to get the 14 day trial, all this player driven economy is pumping my juices.
The backstory sounds interesting, I'm tempted to print out the printer-friendly version but it's 339 pages long. I think I will.

I'm not usually interested in spaceships, and lazers, and all that star wars bullshit, but EVE sounds eerily.. realistic.

Played it if with some guy whos pro at it on the 14 day trial. It was pretty good, takes a while to pick it up, but you can still get a lot done in the 14 days. The downside of the trial is decent skills take days to obtain, and if id suggest using dual monitors as the travelling can be a bit zzz at time. Don't be a faggot carebear miner either

Whats up. Played a bit back when Goonswarm started getting owned in syndicate. And started up again a little more flying dictors for them back when they started pasting feythabolis etc.

0.0 is the only way to play the game o/.

That was the biggest problem with this I found, it was way to easy to get caught in the whole 'mining' thing and you never really ended up doing anything else. It was WAY to good of a source of income to not do.

If you can score some 0.0 space with a good corp, getting a ratting battleship you can rake in the billions of isk, for my flying caldari dictors priced at like 20mil each without fittings i never ran out of isk.

Where all the cool shit happens

the space that corps can take for themselves and own. You can rat and farm here for awesome amounts of isk~

0.0 dictates it's completely non secure space, the closer it gets to 1.0 the more policed & secure the sector is, anything below 0.6 I think is usually where you start to encounter 'pirates'

If you're starting out fresh you're gonna be huge behind on isk (money) and will probably have to start with a mining outfit, or atleast starting to run security with one that mines in low sec space. Generally in some sort of fighter you can escort them as they move around.

So say if you go miner,
Will you have no chance at being good in combat throughout the game?

effectively, you have to train reasonably heavy to get into mining, which is a lot of wasted time in which you can't train into combat abilities.

Wewt. Starting to get the hang of this.
So being a miner, is there no missions open to me?
Is it all mining and thats it

The thing about this game is. This isn't wow. You can do ~anything~ you want. You don't have to level/stay in your area, you can go anywhere, do whatever. There is no level, just training your skills as you noticed. So pretty much, what im getting at is 'do whatever'.

I did the trial a while ago but only just recently started playing again properly.. joined up with goonswarm but I'm still too noob to do anything really.

Thing I like about this game is the player driven nature of the world, how there are huge areas of conquerable space having wars waged over them that go on for months or years, with massive fleet battles involving hundreds of ships etc... and the fact that there is a real economy required to drive the war machine and people actually have to run all the logistics of mining minerals and making ships and keeping their stations up and running etc.. the depth is pretty insane. I think you have to get pretty advanced in the game before you can start affecting things on that scale though..
I'LL MINE WHEREVER I WANT :@
Just watch out for the jihadswarm :P

You don't HAVE to mine, its just when you start out, you don't really have any sort of major combat skills, and they require a fair amount of training, which takes time, so you topically end up either doing Low level courier missions, or mining, and mining is more money.

You can do combat type missions straight away pretty easily, they do get kinda boring though..

Jedateach

The simple combat missions are so tedious it's pathetic, it's not until you get some reputation up you can do decent combat missions, and it's faster/better money doing courier ones.

Played this for 5 minutes. What the fuck. SO MANY MENUS, BUTTONS, INFORMATION, TEXT IS SO SMALL AND EVERYWHERE. WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO. And that's with the tutorial.

Maybe I'm just not feeling it because I'm starving and exhausted, but eitherway, fuck this for now. Gratz to the people who can actually understand it.

It's a mans RPG.

Yeah, shooting rocks is boring. If you have an SA account go join goons, they will make it ok fun for your trial.

he's right though lol, pretty much why i never got into it. His reviews are pretty shit apart from that one, he bags any game that's not WoW. He even made a move on MGS4 which is prolly the worst thing to do imo.

Zero Punctuation is pretty funny tbh, you don't have to take it seriously and I don't, considering he bagged on quite a few games I've enjoyed/still enjoy.
