What do you guys play with and why ?
I play with normal mouse and always used to have a melt down when I went over to apac and castros in the early days becuase they used to use inverted mouse.
I just dont understand the logic of up being down and down being up.

We've had this thread in the past, i was gobsmacked that anyone could possibly use inverted, but they do.

Normal for me.

wtf inverted mice? How can you play with that? :s
The only time I use inverted is for the planes (and helicopters) in games like BF2.

Normal for me however, both inverted and normal make sense.

For a normal control scheme one could see it as an extension of your arm. Your weapon (on screen) is in effect an extension of your arm similarly, so moving your arm up moves your weapon up also. Pretty logical.

For a reverse/inverted scheme, your control point originates from your field of view. Your mouse becomes the back of your head, so as you move the back of your head down, your view moves up.

People who use inverted in 1st person shooters usualy trace their logic to Flight Sims, which makes sense since most of the original True 3d games with six degrees of freedom were usualy Flight Sims.

Hell the only reason I use normal is because in Quake "+mlook 1" made mouse up = look up

I use invert for battlefield games, flying the jets, but not the helicopters.. wait.. I dunno, one of them.

10th October 2006, 07:13 PM

Me and Daniel (souleater) tried to once with CSS. Rofl remember that, soul??
It's almost impossible to play with a tablet (although I did get that deagle headshot one time via tablet, was sweet). You have to keep the pen right in the center of the tablet to stop it from moving, and only moving very little to either way from that point to move. It's really hard. And tapping is fire. But you can change that to enter or something I guess..

lol i remember greg:P what made us think of that O_O

plus i think inverted comes from joysticks. following same logic as that

I think not sleeping all night made us think of it, lol.

normal mouse.

28th October 2006, 06:53 PM
Imagine a stick coming out the back of your head, you move the stick down to look up. Very much like Romans explanation.
Plus joysticks etc, forward goes down.

Both make sense in their own way, but i swear i started using Inverted because Duke3D defaulted to it.

Normal is called normal for a reason, Why can't you be NORMAL crowbar?

28th October 2006, 11:20 PM
No, Malks called it normal, that would in fact make it abnormal.
