Nehalem Build - NZFortress

Time to spice up TFR with a hardware update. It's a bit late but here it is:

After two weeks of saving up money and 2 good friends I finally aquired the backbone parts of my Nehalem build.

Starting to stip down my old parts to make way for the new.

The 4870X2 in all its sitting on top of its box glory.

If there is one thing I really like about the thermaltake Armor+ is the motherboard tray. Pretty much gives you a small working bench.

Asus's P6T-Deluxe. The gimicky expressgate actually proves useful. Can be used to search the internet for troubleshooting OS boot problems. So far this board seem to be alright having a sort of familiar bios to my Maximus.

I wish it would fit in nicely. I had some trouble getting it in position because of the backplate having too much padding. After a few pushes and some quick screw driving it was finally in place.

Here i compared the die size of the LGA775 against the LGA1366. The size is quite suprising considering how technology tends to advance with things getting smaller.

Pretty much the only 6GB kit which is affordable and a trusted brand. 6 GB seemed silly when building my old system last year but it seem kinda like the minimun you would want for tri-channel. I'm hoping to find a better set later or maybe even another set to go with this one.

With the RAM and CPU both installed it was now to put the TRUE on. And all your TRUE owneds know how hard it can be.

It was finally time to start putting things back together and giving everything a test run.

After cleaning up the mess that was my computer I was finally finished.

Everything thing went well and shortly after powering up I got my post only to be greeted by Asus's Express Gate. Express takes about 5 seconds to boot and will give you instant access to the internet with a very firefox like browser along with the chat program pidgen. So far the i7 920 has preformed well, we were able to get it up to 3.6 Ghz from 2.6 Ghz on stock voltage with it being 1024 prime stable. I am currently running it at 3.8 Ghz with hyperthreading off. Sits at a cooler temp than my Q6700 and is only on 1.275 volts. Can't wait to see what a water setup will let me do.

I was lucky enough to get my 4870X2 back when they first came out and when it was a good price.

Whats the main purpose of this computer? Seems like you could already run nearly every computer game on the market and adding water cooling seems a bit much.

Well I compete in an overclocking competetion for my forum durig the summer/winter forum wars. The only reason I want water is because I'm bored and need a new project to start, right now I'm looking to do some case modding and hoping to get some new colours on my case.

Hardluck. My system was being changed over as the stock score were needed so I skipped. Keen for summer wars, especially with it being winter here. I was on single digits for temps last yeah on my TRUE.
