February 2010, NZFortress and pugNation bring you: pugNation1

PugNation is a new style of 6v6 tournament, which accepts entries from individual players as opposed to clan entries. Registration for the first league consists of 3 pools – the first 72 players registered are guaranteed a space in one of 12 teams, the next 12 players are placed into a “reserve” pool, where one player is assigned to each team as a backup. Finally, there is an “open” pool, where any number of people can put their name down to be called upon as a “fill-in” player if required.

The players are placed into 6-man teams (including a medic who has volunteered during the registrations), of similar skill & experience, and put into a 12-team double-elimination draw.The tournament will be starting in February and teams will play 1 game a week, at a time of their choosing. Australians are welcome to join, however as this is a New Zealand-based tournament, the games will be played on local servers unless agreed to by both teams and Aussies will need to accommodate for time differences.

While pugNation doesn’t follow the traditional clan-vs-clan format, it encourages people of all caliber to attend – whether you’re a seasoned pro, or a casual player wanting an introduction to the competitive 6v6 side of tf2, anyone can sign up and take part. And, while this isn’t a serious competition, there will even be a cash prize for the winning team!

Registrations for the first league of pugNation are now closed, however you can expect pugNation² later in the year after the first event has finished.
