Every one has broken where the wire connects to the actual mouse, even though I've given it tons of leeway to move. It helps putting a plastic/rubber sleeve around where it connects to the mouse.. about 2.5cm of it to avoid it bending.

Whats a really sturdy mouse? Everyone say the mx518 but they seem weak to me

Been holding my tongue for quite a while but... The reason is your 80cm 360. The weakest point on most mice is where the cable connects to the device. Like any cable soldered (or attached) some other way to a pcb or similar somethingorother you yank it back and forth enough it's gonna come loose! I use low sens compared to what people my age where using back when I used to actually care what other people used but can still 360 in around 25cm.

Think of it like your headphone cable for your ipod or whatever. jerk it back and forth enough you start only getting one working headphone etc etc. Same principle.

Yeah I know I even fastened a flexible rubber sleeve around my old one near the connection point to stop it bending, similar in attachment to an iron. Still broke. I'll change the sensitivity I suppose. Even though I love it.

Also, it wasn't the cord coming loose.. they were too new for that! It was where it connects to the mouse that was getting constantly bent back in fourth as you said.
I could see the wires inside it tearing out the side of the cord in less than a week. LOL
Don't know how those fucking cs:s players manage it. Unless they have a ridiculous budget for mice.

A friend has offered to solder my dead mice to fix them. It's pretty simply really, I just don't have access to a soldering iron. Most usb cables are made of 5 smaller colour coded wires inside.. all ya gotta do is peel back the cord at its broken point and then cut out out the broken section of the wire and get some wire trimmers and careful solder the end points to the mouse.

Probably just the solder itself that's come loose. Let your mate at it, he'll probably fix them.

The cord generally does a sharp turn to the left or right as it enters, so its not ideal.

80/360 is absurdly low... Do you use an air hockey table for a mousepad? But seriously, I'd turn that shit up. Might be a worthwhile investment considering how many mice you've gone through.

Bit of a thread necro so I apologize but this wasn't worth a new one.

Just bought a Sidewinder (Microsoft) because I wanted a mouse that wasn't dying. 65 bucks, which probably could have been better spent but I'm not fussed.

One day I'll buy a nice big mouse that shoots lasers and gets me bitches, today is not that day.

eMeh. they break easily and I end up having to peel the feet, open the mouse, pull back the cord into the mouse, glue the connectors into place, wrap sellotape around the undamaged cord where it exits the mouse then put the lid, screws and feet back in.

G400 has latest me the longest. (2+ months)

Actually most people would agree that MX518s are very durable. It's just your weird sensitivity that breaks mice. For $65 you're not going to get a better mouse than the 518.

My mouse has started showing signs of needing replacement. Currently i use a Logitec mx518. The scroll wheel now has a mind of its own and from what i can tell from research, it's terminal.

Looking at something relatively cheap, preferably similar size to the 518. This thread pretty much answers my question but are there any others people recommend?

deathadder or replace your 518 _b If you don't care about dpi (and tbh there's not much reason to unless you play rts) and like the 518s' shape just replace it, doubt you'll find a death adder for anything but the same price at best. See if someone you know can lend you a DA for a trial and if you like it more then...

Go optical not laser

Laser skips sometimes and doesn't perform as well as a optical on cloth.
Optical is very reliable and doesn't skip shots.

Some lasers are good, but yeah.
MX518 and G400, etc, are monstrous when put up to 1000hz.
